Synopsis
Remember when actors became American Presidents? When bubble skirts and blue eye shadow were cool? When Atari was cutting edge technology? From the era that brought the world the Rubik’s Cube, Max Headroom, and The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comes this ‘totally awesome’ musical in the style of movies such as Back to the Future, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Karate Kid, and Sixteen Candles.
The story tells of the senior class of William Ocean High School that graduated in the 1980’s, as remembered and seen through the eyes of Corey Palmer who is now an adult. The young Corey is madly in love with the girl next door, Tiffany Houston, who is one of the coolest girls in school. Tiffany is too busy mooning over Michael Feldman, the hottest guy around. Michael and his cool crew are athletic and good-looking…the kind of guys that Corey and his best friends dream of being. But while Corey may not be the coolest, he’s still one up on Feargal McFerrin III, whose best friend is his computer and who believes the crazy notion that one day CDs will replace cassette tapes.
There are lots of disappointments in school: Michael steals Corey’s election speech and promises the girls a kiss for their votes to win Class President, Corey despairs even more when Tiffany becomes Michael’s Vice President, Eileen Reagan is mortified when Michael and his gang send fake love letters, teachers Mr. Cocker and Miss Brannigan break up when Mr. Cocker discovers a centerfold photo of her in a swimsuit magazine, and Billy Astley can’t seem to get a date for prom.
But with show-stopping tunes like Kids in America, Love Shack, Centerfold, Man in the Mirror, and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, you can’t be sad for long. High-energy dance routines, copious amounts of blue eye shadow, twenty cans of hairspray, and 80’s memorabilia will have you singing and laughing along. Take a journey with us… Back to the 80’s!
